Service at Mass
"When the Church comes together in the liturgical assembly to celebrate the Mass, or any other sacrament, her members do not gather simply as a crowd, as an amorphous, undifferentiated group of people. They gather in a variety of ministries and roles. If we are to understand the significance of these ministries and roles, we must begin with Baptism, for only one who through Baptism has been given a share in the priesthood of Christ is capable of participating in the public worship which is the liturgy of the Church. In fact, the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy of the Second Vatican Council tells us that participation in the liturgy is the right and duty of all the baptized."

Sacristan
- Prepares the Church prior to Mass and aids in cleaning up afterwards.
Altar Server
- Anyone who has recieved their First Communion has the opportunity to become an altar server at St. Edward's. Children, from after their First Communion to High School age, most often are the servers at Sunday and Holy Day Obligation Masses.
- Because funerals often take place during hours which they youth are unable to serve, adlut altar servers are often needed.
Lector
- Lectors proclaim the 1st & 2nd Readings of Sacred Scripture, prior to the Gospel during Mass
- People who are truly suited to carrying out this function and carefully prepared, so that by their hearing the readings from the sacred texts the faithful may conceive in their hearts a sweet and living affection for Sacred Scripture.
Extraordinary Minister of Communion
- The priest may call upon extraordinary ministers to assist him, i.e., duly instituted acolytes or even other faithful who have been deputed to distribute Holy Communion.
- All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine.
Usher
- People who help select gift bearers, assist in seating, and help collect the gift
Cantor & Choir
